The philosophy of education is determined by society.

Furthermore I will address the nature of students; the nature of knowledge; the purpose of public education; my methods of teaching; and finally the curricular areas that I feel are the most important.

There are two main points to my philosophy, why teachers are important and who teachers are.

With the support and encouragement of my parents, I have come to know the value of education and have a desire to instill this same sense of structure in students I will come in contact with.

An instructor’s teaching style is directly related to their philosophy of what it means to know and learn. The rationale for making particular teaching choices becomes more apparent when new faculty members reflect on what they believe about teaching and learning. Much of what faculty believe comes from their own experiences as a student, the images of teaching they hold, and their experiences as a teacher. There is, however, a body of research on teaching and learning that may serve faculty well as they hone their teaching craft.

Adult education philosophy has much to offer education-for-work practitioners in terms of teaching adults and adult learning theories. Many education-for-work practitioners in HRD and vocational education are finding the progressive and humanistic philosophies of adult education useful in terms of designing and implementing practice for certain learning situations, like diversity education and training in business and industry and the institutional classroom.

I have been very interested in going back to college to finish my college degree for a very long time. I have had some bumps along the way, but that has just made me stronger and more determined to complete my degree. I lost my job in 2010 with a telecommunications company merger and found a new job in July 2011, which is what brought me to Upstate NY. Empire State College seems to be a good fit for me because of the majors that you offer and your online program.
My wife and I have two sons that are both attending colleges outside of NY. It would make me so proud to complete my degree and be able to get a college diploma right along with them. Our oldest son was diagnosed with a brain tumor in April 2004. He had a craniotomy to remove half of his brain tumor. He also received 2 months of proton beam radiation treatment at Mass General Hospital while living in North Carolina. As a family we have had to endure many obstacles that we have been able to over come.
