The newly founded church of Corinth was in correspondence with Paul requesting his answers to questions they posed on topics ranging from marriage to the resurrection of the dead; the latter being one of the most highlighted in 1 Corinthians.

In previous centuries, almost all Christians believed in miracles as described in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament). These included creation, the story of Adam and Eve, a talking serpent, the great flood of Noah, the drying up of the Red/Reed sea, a prophet riding on a talking ass, the sun stopping in the sky, etc. From the Christian Scriptures (New Testament), they believed in the virgin birth, the Christmas star, angels appearing to the shepherds, Jesus healing the sick, etc. Many, perhaps most, liberal Christians now believe that these stories are not to be interpreted literally as real events. Their faith has not been damaged by losing faith in the reality of these events. A growing number of liberals are now taking the final step by interpreting the stories of Jesus' resurrection and his appearances to his followers and to Paul as other than real events. Retired bishop John Shelby Spong commented:

The futureresurrection of all vindicates God's character.

In the book, The reality of Jesus we come across a section known as the "The Pauline Evidence".

He advances this objective by employing themes of suffering, resurrection, and death--all of these currents running through a surprisingly benevolent universe.

These perceptions and the reality of Jesus Christ's resurrection instill special hope in those whoclaim God's promises in faith: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, whichaccording to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection ofJesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth notaway, reserved in heaven for you."--1 Peter 1:3,4Believers in Jesus Christ hear the "upward call of God" (Phil.

This is why opponents of the Christian faith have tried to attempt to discredit the Biblical account of the resurrection....
